DESCRIPTION: EPW - Tho's & Jn'o Ollivant, Manchester, lever fusee with plunge activated quarter-hour repeater, 51mm, 14K gold or better (tested, exhibiting rapid fade of 18K solution on stone, no fade of 14K solution) OF original case bearing Chester hallmarks for 1834, incuse "TE HF" marking for casemakers Timothy Ellison and Hugh Fishwick, case with misleading crowned "18" marking but not holding 18K gold testing as is not uncommon among Chester hallmarked cases of this era, gold cuvette, white enamel DS impressed dial, KWKS, lever escapement, 15J, gilt mvt, s#7418. Comes with an unmarked leather display box with folding segment to underside that pulls out to function as a stand. Gross weight of assembled watch 69.3 dwt (107.8 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, repeater function engages and usually returns a strike that is two hours in advance of hand position but occasionally returns a strike only one hour in advance of hand position or neglects to strike entirely, repeat tone is somewhat muffled, overhaul needed for normalized repeat function, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, plates with some areas of haze and fine scratches, set-up spring and click with some fine scratch striations from sanding; dial with partially patched chipping between 3 and 6, unpatched edge chip near 3, scattered hls and scratches; fine hands; case shows very little wear, shallow dent to bezel at 6, very slight bow impression to upper rear, excellent engine turning detail; bow pivots freely; clean plastic crystal. Box in fine condition, exterior with scattered tears at edges and few scratches, rear ribbon is slightly frayed, good latch, interior with some tearing to material over hinges.
